The Zanzibar Inn is located in Lauvsnes in Nord-Trøndelag. This famous fish camp offers a combination of restaurant, motel and apartments and has all the facilities for the modern and demanding angler. It also offers a very sheltered location. You can fish here in practically any weather.
The fishing is fjord oriented and due to the size of the fjord there is practically no difference between the fjord and the open sea. Except for the waves because you will hardly encounter them because of the perfect location. When the weather is fair you can of course also head out to open sea to change the view during the fishing.
First of all there is the local host Pål who takes care of the assistance on the spot. Think of assistance with all kinds of activities such as mountain climbing, sea rafting, sea eagle safari, kayaking, diving or snorkeling, sightseeing and of course the most important thing is FISHING!
He is also a fanatic fisherman himself and is happy to share his best spots with you and on arrival he will give you an good explanation about the fish camp and all the possibilities on site. Also an explanation about the boat and its operation are part of a correct start of your fishing trip.
The fishing has been very good in recent years and almost all guests have caught the fish they wanted. The amount of species of fish is an important feature of this location.
Up to 25 species can be caught with the normal species such as cod, coalfish and ling but also more special species such as hake, redfish, wolffish and halibut can be caught as well here.
From the quay and in the small fjord of South-Lauvsnes there are good spots to challenge various flatfish species to a bite with natural bait. In the direction of the open sea, the fjord has many small islands and deep trenches.
Fishing in the shallower areas with light equipment is a real feast for cod and coalfish. But also large pollack can be found here and will test your material thoroughly. In the deeper parts of the fjord you find tusk, ling, cod but also wolffish, monkfish, redfish and halibut are found here.
Especially for ling there are perfect spots here. They are regularly caught up to 35 kilos and more in trenches at depths of up to 200 metres.
The fishery is very varied and has something to offer every angler. Because of the sheltered location of Zanzibar Inn there is always a place to fish. Even if the weather gods are less favourable to you.
This is an important advantage over more sea-oriented locations. Lovers of freshwater fishing can also enjoy themselves in the area. According to the owner, no permits are required. So if you want to catch trout, I would certainly bring a spinning rod and according lures.
