Description
Hitra is the famous fishing place-to-be where every year many fishermen go for a wonderful week (or two) to fish. This is not surprising because the fishery in Hitra has been known for years for its good quality.
Beautiful deep channels, many islands and drop offs make the fishing here a real pleasure with a lot of variety. Coalfish up to 15 kilos are no exception here as well as ling up to 35 kilos +. It's not a daily occurrence but action is always there.
Dolmøy Gjestebrygge offers everything the modern sea angler needs. This is truly one of the very best fishing camps in Hitra and surroundings. Both in terms of quality of the apartments and the boats but certainly also in terms of location! The island of Dolmøy is the daughter island of Hitra.
This fishing camp is perfectly situated and protected behind the island Frøya. The fishing grounds are close by, fishing days lost due to bad weather are rare and catches are guaranteed. This is a prime location in the north east of Hitra and directly on the Frøyafjord.
Fishing starts right away in the small house-fjord in front of the houses. In the sandy bays you can easily catch flatfish with light material. Super fun of course and directly a different type of fishing other than the big work. The first big pollack and coalfish are already waiting around the corner against the edges of the islands and the steep depths.
Leave the house-fjord to the west and you arrive at the shallow Kjerrigsvågtaren where the current ensures that there is always a nice cod, coalfish or pollack to catch. A little further to the west there are two well-known underwater mountains, Hallar and Edøyrevet. Here, the large cod, coalfish, pollack and halibut are looking for food in the current. This spot should be fished daily.
A little further to the west the real depths start at 100 or more meters. In these depths there are many trenches and in these trenches the large ling are caught. Above these depths, schools of mackerel and small coalfish gather in late spring and summer. It is these species that are chased by all the larger 'types' and will provide a spectacle.
There are also hotspots such as Nord-, Med-, and Sørklallen and the underwater mountain range Tirevet that ensure that you have more than enough fishing opportunities here. Especially the active fishing with light material like lures and spoons on pollack and coalfish around the island makes this a location with very varied fishing, in a beautiful environment, in a good sheltered place, with a fantastic fish stock!
